TROOP 43 BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
             SEA CLIFF, NY
SUMMER CAMP DETAILS:
Troop 43 will be attending summer camp at Onteora Scout reservation, week 4, Sunday July 28th to Saturday, August 3rd. Cost per scout: only $200 (What A bargain!!!!!!!!!) The deposit is paid, we'll be staying in the Dull Knife campsite, which is pretty much centrally located in the camp.
WE MUST have a $100 deposit per scout paid by March 15 to keep the "welcome back" discount. The remaining balance is due by May 17th. The full balance can be paid by March 15th if you choose. Any scout who does not have the $100 deposit paid by the 15th will have to pay the full $300 dollars if he wishes to go to summer camp with the troop ($400 if paid after May 17th)
Any cub scouts who bridge over into the troop after the March 15 deadline will still be eligible for the discounted rate.
EVERY registered scout should be attending summer camp. without exception. (I know some of you have said you will be on vacation, fear not, there will always be next year) It's what scouting is all about and is ABSOLUTELY the greatest opportunity to earn merit badges. There's advancement opportunities for the younger guys (Dan Beard program), merit badge opportunities for all and if you're an older scout who's close to or made eagle, you can rack up merit badges for eagle palms and really exercise your leadership muscles and show the younger guys what it's all about! This is absolutely the best opportunity to have a great camping experience this summer!
For those older boys (14 years old and at least Star scout) who feel that one week simply isn't enough time to earn all the merit badges they want too, why not stay for two weeks and attend the Path to Eagle week 5 (August 4 to August 10) Please see Mr. Thompson if interested.
For those of you who want to develop and hone your leadership skills, there's also Bearclaw week 5. There is no merit badges earned or rank advancement, it's an intensive leadership training course that will teach and help scouts develop skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
Since we're talking summer camp, we also have to talk medicals. Those will be discussed in further e-mails and at troop meetings down the road.

Here's the re-cap of the Onteora presentation from Feb 4 :
For those of you who couldn't make it, the camp has been completely re-furbished. The climbing wall is re-opened, there's' a new catering company that will be doing food service, the barn /facilities yard is open for a slew of new merit badges designed to attract the attention of the older boys who might be looking to rack up a fistful of merit badges for eagle palms, new mountain bikes, expanded Dan Beard program for the younger guys and a whole lot more.
As per the e-mail back in September, the troop is looking at week 4, July 28th to August 3rd.
As most of you know, I'm very passionate about Onteora. It is a beautiful camp, located at the south western end of the Catskill mountains. I camped there as a youth, and have gone back time and time again. Summer camp is absolutely the best way to rack up the merit badges and have a meaningful and fulfilling outdoor experience.
I know there is some hesitation about returning to Onteora. The troops last experience there was less then stellar, but I can assure each and everyone of you that the camp has changed. The leadership here at council has changed since we last attended as a troop, and their number one priority is to get troops back to camp. They're invested a ton of resources into the camp and improved all areas of program.

Please have your $100 deposit for summer camp at the next troop meeting, Monday, March 4. Please make check payable to the Theodore Roosevelt Council.

Age 21 Drivers Policy
Since many of our older scouts now have drivers licenses or learner's permits, there have been some questions as to how and when this might affect driving arrangements during troop outings and activities. After discussion with our Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters and Committee members, Troop 43 has adopted an age 21 drivers policy. Only drivers who are age 21 or older will be permitted to transport scouts, including themselves, DURING troop-sponsored outings and activities. As always, the troop reserves the right to exclude any driver or vehicle deemed to pose a safety hazard at any time, regardless of age or owner. Safety must always take precedent over convenience whenever vehicles are involved. Thanks always for your cooperation.
